Holiday festivities abound in quaint Calaveras towns. Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway Scenic 4The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway is one of the most beautiful stretches of road you'll ever travel. It begins on Highway 4 near Arnold and meanders over the mountain range into Markleeville. You won't be able to travel the entire route all year through, as the pass generally closes after the first snowfall. But the drive to the closure point is well worth it in winter months and driving the entire route is great in Spring, Summer and Fall (gorgeous colors will greet you around every bend)! Year round activities that encourage spontaneous road trips include: Hiking, biking, camping, caving, golfing, wine tasting, shopping, antiquing, theatre-going, concerts, Big Trees State Park
