Driving Tours

Year-round road trips are highly recommended!

Spring Fever

Mother Nature's palette turns a variety of spectacular color as wildflowers begin to adorn the hillsides. Daffodils and frogs are celebrated and the fresh air invites adventure seekers of all types.

Summertime Yeahs!

Witness spectacular beauty and cooler temperatures at high country lakes in the giant trees. At lower elevations, cool off in huge lakes that welcome water sport enthusiasts

Autumn Harvest

Tour the wineries, open year-round, and enjoy complimentary tasting. Take in the aroma of sweet grapes as they prepare to become award-winning wines.

Winter Wonderland

The fresh winter snowfall welcomes skiers, snowmobilers, snowboarders and snowshoers. Holiday festivities abound in quaint Calaveras towns.

Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway    Scenic 4

The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway is one of the most beautiful stretches of road you'll ever travel. It begins on Highway 4 near Arnold and meanders over the mountain range into Markleeville. You won't be able to travel the entire route all year through, as the pass generally closes after the first snowfall. But the drive to the closure point is well worth it in winter months and driving the entire route is great in Spring, Summer and Fall (gorgeous colors will greet you around every bend)!

Year round activities that encourage spontaneous road trips include:

Hiking, biking, camping, caving, golfing, wine tasting, shopping, antiquing, theatre-going, concerts, Big Trees State Park
